Founded by Tony (Antonis) Toumbourou in Waratah Place (a small laneway off Lonsdale Street), Melbourne, Travellers Apparel was founded in 1951 with one simple vision : quality, product knowledge, and service.
Together with Chris Christopher (Tony's co-founder), they built what was then a legacy of tailoring experience & trade.
As new migrants to Australia, Tony & Chris worked tirelessly in building goodwill & quality products in their chosen trade. They were both highly visible activists in the Cypriot community, with Tony co-founding the Cyprus Community of Melbourne & Victoria - together with other significant Cypriot migrants. Their workshop was often a landing page for new Cypriot migrants entering the local Melbourne community.
Their head Tailor - Mr Salvatore Tronca & his loyal assistant Mr Alfio Privitera - were known right across Australia as the most meticulous & fussy tailors imaginable. Salvatore & Alfio were well known to refuse a customer delivery of their own suits, even when the customers were satisfied - because the tailors were not satisfied ! Indeed the Governer General of Australia was known to 'pop in' when in Melbourne for a suit fitting and have to come back because Salvatore was not happy yet.
Today, our family business is proudly powered by the second generation - the Toumbourou & Kouppas families - together with our wonderful staff.
As we have done so for over 60 years, our family looks forward to serving you and your families.
